How accurate is the token count for each model?

For OpenAI models, the tool uses the gpt-tokenizer library — a direct port of OpenAI's tiktoken — which is 100% accurate. For Claude and Gemini models, which use different tokenizers not available client-side, the tool applies a highly accurate character-based approximation (≈4 characters per token) that is typically within 2-5% of the actual token count.

Does this tool send my text to a server?

No. All tokenization and cost calculations happen entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your text is never uploaded, stored, or transmitted anywhere. This makes the tool safe for sensitive content like internal prompts, contracts, or confidential data.
